The storms we have been experiencing in Sydney recently are becoming more frequent and more severe. The storms around the area we live and service, Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, West Pennant Hills, Beecroft, Cheltenham and the North Shore have been very severe indeed. We saw devastation in December 2018. As a result of such storm devastation, only now in 2020, 2021 are insurance companies finalising claims so families can complete their household repairs. Fallen Trees – What to Do
Here is a guideline you can follow if storm damage takes place at your property:
- Be vigilant and avoid any area’s that appear dangerous
Your fallen tree or fallen branch may have taken down powerlines or service wires when it fell so it is extremely important to avoid these areas at all costs as they may carry an electrical current.
Stay away from broken branches or hanging branches overhead that may have been damaged when the fallen tree came down and may have the potential to drop.
- Engage a Professional Arborist
It is important to engage the services of a qualified and professional Arborist. They will be able to inspect the fallen tree and advise on the safest way for the tree to be removed. As a result of engaging a qualified and professional Arborist they will assess the trees and branches that may have been impacted or damaged in the surrounding area from the fallen tree. Always ask to see the Arborists insurance, public liability and workers compensation and qualifications. Some companies claim to be arborists but are not qualified.
- After Care and Maintenance
Once the clean-up of the fallen tree has taken place it is highly recommended that you keep an eye on your trees.
We recommend maintenance pruning every twelve months and any trees that are dead, partially dead, diseased or leaning looked at by a qualified and professional arborist. By using a professional they can advise and recommend on the best course of action moving forward to protect your property and your family.
